On March 21, the People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem District (Hanoi) announced the renovation of Ly Thai To flower garden. The district is preparing to invest in the Ly Thai To flower garden renovation project with the goal of preventing degradation, adding urban facilities associated with effectively promoting the historical and cultural values of the Hoan Kiem Lake area.
Hoan Kiem District will, together with the group of architects who won the first prize in the Km0 milestone design competition organized by the Architecture Magazine of the Vietnam Association of Architects and Hoan Kiem District in 2020, install the Km0 milestone at the center of the ceremonial yard, in front of the statue of King Ly Thai To.
Along with that, Hoan Kiem District will renovate and embellish Ly Thai To flower garden with three main areas including the ceremonial area, the Nha Ken yard and the flower garden park area.
In which, the ceremonial area includes the lobby, the ceremonial yard and the incense yard. Expand the ceremonial yard towards the sidewalk of Dinh Tien Hoang Street, with Km0 located at the center of the ceremonial yard.
The Nha Ken yard area is re-planned with a green tree and lawn system to increase the usable area.
The Flower Garden area is organized into two main spatial axes including the Ken House – State Bank axis; Office of the President – Children’s Palace. The yard in the middle is for organizing activities, adding in a water music system along the East – West axis. Add public toilets and a tourist information center in this area.
The district will also expand the flower garden space connecting with Le Lai, Le Thach and Dinh Tien Hoang streets. Paving the flower garden area and the roadbed of Le Lai and Le Thach streets; painting lines combined with paving the roadbed of Dinh Tien Hoang street to connect the Flower Garden area and Hoan Kiem Lake. Replace shade trees, remove unsuitable trees, and plant additional trees to increase the shade area and landscape of the flower garden.
The expected time to start renovating Ly Thai To flower garden, including installing Km0 milestones, is from April and completed in October 2025.
Ly Thai To flower garden is located in Trang Tien ward with an area of 10,040m2, bordered by Dinh Tien Hoang, Le Thach, Le Lai and Ngo Quyen streets. With an important function in connecting Hoan Kiem Lake with the surrounding area including: Dien Hong flower garden, square space in front of the State Bank; valuable architectural works such as the headquarters of the President’s Office, Hanoi Party Committee headquarters, Hanoi People’s Council – People’s Committee, Metropole Hotel… Ly Thai To flower garden is one of the important public spaces in the center of the capital, associated with the landscape of Hoan Kiem Lake and many valuable architectural works.
