Application of artificial intelligence in Architecture – Planning

Digital technology and artificial intelligence have become popular all over the world and have affected all aspects of our lives, especially fundamentally changing the field of Architecture – Planning – Urban Management. However, design consulting or urban management activities in Vietnam have hardly approached this process. This situation has slowed down the development of our country compared to the world.

With the aim of sharing knowledge, experience and improving expertise for architects in the digital age, the Hanoi Association of Architects organized a seminar on Application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in architecture and planning on November 28, 2024 at the Hall of the Hanoi Institute of Construction Planning, 15th Floor, Hanoi City Inter-agency Building, Vo Chi Cong Street, Tay Ho District, Hanoi City.

Since 2017, the Hanoi Association of Architects has proactively approached and connected leading experts in the world to the Association of Architects, in order to share information related to architects as well as to management levels, encouraging architects to practice and share successes in applying digital technology and artificial intelligence to consulting work on Architecture – Planning – Urban Management.

In 2024, the Hanoi Association of Architects organized 2 seminars for CUBIC to exchange related information and this is the 3rd time for CUBIC to introduce artificial intelligence (AI), the relationship between BIM, Computational Design and AI. Cubic’s AI research mainly focuses on building data, training, and deploying AI applications to support the design process.

Cubic is one of the pioneers of the Hanoi Association of Architects, famous in the architectural consulting community for applying digital technology in architectural planning consulting.

The seminar introduced to architects working in architectural planning consultancy and management solutions for applying artificial intelligence in Ho Chi Minh City: applying AI to prepare design documents for construction and house renovation permits; applying AI to transfer data to the district urban management agency, digitizing integrated construction design documents, synchronizing with land management and technical infrastructure documents (with a set of paper documents stamped by the consulting unit, appraised according to regulations), based on the construction permit application documents, the management agency supervises the construction in accordance with the license; applying flying devices to detect illegal construction without permission to issue minutes to determine violations, along with administrative sanctions according to regulations.

Artificial intelligence (AI) application solutions for creating design documents for construction permits and transferring technology to management agencies are being implemented in Ho Chi Minh City by SOS.
AI application solutions for ground and underground survey, simulation modeling to create optimal underground infrastructure solutions – Examples from VIRCON Hong Kong (China)
AI application solutions integrating digital applications in project management – Examples from Taiwan (China)
The role of architects now and in the future when applying AI in consulting, designing and investing in large-scale infrastructure projects – Example: The proposal to expand Ngoc Hoi Station – Hanoi implemented by French consultants is funded by the World Bank (WB) in 2024
Applying AI in design consulting – investing in the 28 billion Euro Grand Paris project, mobilizing social capital to achieve the goal of Human Free Movement in Urban Areas

The seminar also discussed the implementation methods and resources to apply AI technology in surveying, design consulting, investment, and project management in Korea, Hong Kong (China), Thailand, Taiwan (China) and other developed countries. Representatives of several large investment corporations in Hanoi also participated in the seminar, sharing initial results of applying AI technology in planning to ensure fire safety for new urban areas.
